01.20.2019 B.I.C.I Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony & Garden Party
On Sunday January 20th, the Board of Directors of the Bocilla Islands Conservancy held a ribbon-cutting for a newly acquired conservation easement at 160 Gasparilla way. The interactive vision plan for this area was presented to those attending. The plan includes natural paths meandering throughout the property. Native vegetation will be highlighted as well as areas for bird houses, bat houses, checkers, a “gnome” forest and environmental information. Approximately 50 people attended the “Thank You” party which followed the ceremony. It was a true garden party, complete with champagne and hors d’oeuvres and fancy hats for a photo booth. Everyone had a wonderful time. All were supportive of the Conservancy’s efforts to date, with many committing to volunteering their time and support for the many conservation and environmental projects going on. It was truly a community gathering, for the benefit of the community. There are many opportunities for everyone to get involved at many levels. P.I.E. hosted the annual "Band in the Sand" social event on North Gulf Boulevard. A record breaking 450+ Islanders attended the event to listen to the band called Bandana against the backdrop of the ocean.
We would like to thank these Board Members who helped to set up the event, Jeff Bisgrove, Dave Witter, Dave Mulvaney, and Monica Errico. We would also like to thank the previous Board Members who assisted with the event, Wayne Ratajack and Gerry Illiano. Thank you to the many island volunteers including (but not limited too) Mike Szakaly, Rose Malone, Martin Roberts, Donald & Sande Thomas, and Melissa Kassouf. We also appreciate the support of the following Board Members for attending, Lou Ellen Wilson, Craig Baresel, Andy Ronald, and Sally Johnson.
We'd also like to thank Erica Mulvaney for the many hours spent designing the flyers and the banner. We'd like to thank the Social Committee for taking the time and effort to work with Rylie Pevec, Erica Mulvaney and John Witters to obtain volunteer hours towards their Island Scholarship Fund requirement. You are the future of our Island!
